Fifth Annual Vet Day 5K
The Oceana County Vet Day 5K is an annual running event organized by the Oceana County Department of Veteran's Affairs. Held on the first Saturday of November, this event serves as the primary fundraiser for the organization. All proceeds from the race remain within Oceana County to assist local veterans with essential needs such as food pantry access and transportation to medical appointments.
The course begins and ends at the renovated Getty Park in downtown Shelby. Participants follow a route that heads north along Industrial Drive before looping back south utilizing the Hart-Montague Trail. This is a timed race, and results are tracked for all participants.
Competitive recognition is provided for different age and gender categories. Prizes are awarded to the first, second, and third-place finishers for both males and females in two distinct groups:
- Participants aged 18 and under
- Participants aged 19 and older
