OBX Turkey Trot 2026
The 17th Annual OBX Turkey Trot takes place on Thanksgiving Day in Southern Shores, North Carolina. Events are organized by OBX GO FAR as the event's largest annual fundraiser to support local youth programs, including scholarships, coach training, program supplies, and race experiences. The organizer reports having impacted more than 12,000 youth across Dare County.
Event options include:
- 0.5 mile Children's Fun Run for ages 12 and under
- 1 mile Run/Walk
- 5K in-person race
- 5K virtual event with no shirt or medal
The in-person 5K course starts behind the Town of Southern Shores complex on N. Virginia Dare Trail and is mainly on pavement with a short section that crosses to uneven pavement at the first turn onto a sidewalk. The in-person 5K includes a water station on course, traffic control and ham radio support. A one hour time limit applies to the 5K. Strollers and dogs are not permitted for the 5K.
Participants who register during the qualifying registration period are eligible for an OBX Turkey Trot shirt and a custom finisher medal. Online registration opens July 25, 2026. Register by October 31 to qualify for the shirt and medal package, and by November 3 to guarantee a requested shirt size. Registration fees increase beginning August 1.
Packet pickup details are to be announced. Postrace raffles, awards, and a pancake breakfast are planned, including awards for top male and female 5K finishers and a Largest Flock Trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
