OBX Turkey Trot : Southern Shores, NC
The 17th Annual OBX Turkey Trot takes place on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2026, in Southern Shores, North Carolina. The event offers in-person and virtual options and raises funds for OBX GO FAR, a Dare County nonprofit that supports youth running programs. OBX GO FAR reports it has impacted more than 12,000 young people in Dare County.
Distances and options include:
- 5K 3.1 miles, mainly pavement, some uneven pavement at one turn.
- 1 mile Run/Walk untimed community run and walk for families and participants.
- Children's 1/4-mile Fun Run for ages 12 and under.
- Virtual 5K run remotely, no shirts or medals.
The signature 5K course begins just behind Southern Shores Town Hall in a cul-de-sac and includes a water station. The 5K has a one hour time limit. Strollers and dogs are not permitted. Traffic control and ham radio support will be present on course. Raffles, prize awards, and a Largest Flock Trophy for the biggest registered group are part of the post-race activities. Thanksgiving pies will be awarded to the top male and female 5K finishers. A hot pancake breakfast and event shirts and finisher medals are available to participants who register within the qualifying registration period.
Online registration opens July 25, 2026. Registering by October 31 qualifies participants for the shirt and medal package; November 3 is the last day to guarantee requested shirt size. Packet pickup and late registration details will be provided; shirts and medals cannot be guaranteed for late or on-site registration.
