OADAY 5k / Remembrance Walk
The OADAY 5k / Remembrance Walk is an annual event held in Punta Gorda, Florida, at South County Regional Park. The event is organized to coincide with International Overdose Awareness Day, aiming to raise awareness about overdose prevention, provide education, and honor those affected by the global crisis. The proceedings benefit local community organizations, including Cathy’s Place of Charlotte County and Drug Free Charlotte County.
The event offers several participation options:
- OVERDOSE AWARENESS 5K
- 1 MILE REMEMBRANCE WALK
- Virtual Remembrance Walk
The 5k race uses chip timing with a combined start and finish line at the same location. Participants in the remembrance walk follow a waterfront route. Those choosing the virtual option complete their distance independently and submit their own times, as chip timing is not provided for the remote event.
Onsite features include a live DJ, raffles with various prizes, and informational booths providing resources on overdose prevention. Every participant who crosses the finish line receives Narcan. The event also features a special display where participants can contribute photos of loved ones to be honored during the walk. A specific trophy, the Kelly Team Trophy, is awarded to the largest participating team to highlight community collective effort.
Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners, as well as several age-based categories including Masters, Grandmaster, Senior Grandmaster, and Veterans. Medals are provided for the top three finishers in age groups ranging from under 14 to over 80. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
