Northern Outer Banks Salt & Sound Run/Walk
The event takes place at the Currituck County Rural Center in Powells Point, North Carolina on September 19, 2026. The courses run along the edge of the Currituck Sound and include boardwalk sections, ponds, horse corrals and paths by a kayak trail. Surfaces vary, so the courses are scenic but not the fastest.
Distances offered:
- 10K, registration fee $40
- 5K, registration fee $30
- 1 mile, registration fee $15
Registration opens February 10, 2026 and closes July 9, 2026. Each race is chip timed and will have water stations and the park's permanent restrooms. Rear race marshals will be on horseback. The 1 mile route is noted as accessible for wheelchairs, strollers and dogs; dogs must be on a leash and strollers and dogs are asked to start at the back. A wheelchair division is listed among awards.
Awards and finish items are specified for each distance. All finishers will receive a race medal and the first 150 registrants will receive a race t-shirt. The event supports local organizations including the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, Currituck 4H, Back Packs for Kids and Kid's First. A pancake breakfast is offered after the races.
