Nitty Gritty
The Nitty Gritty is a looped trail race held on August 16, 2026, at Red Lodge Mountain, 305 Ski Run Rd, Red Lodge, MT 59068. The event uses a lap format with each lap approximately 4.3 miles and about 900 to 1200 ft of elevation gain per lap. The course runs on a mix of singletrack, access road and some bushwhacking. The exact route changes yearly and course maps are released two weeks prior to race day.
Distance options include:
- 26.2 miles, full marathon (6 laps)
- 13.1 miles, half marathon (3 laps)
- 4.31 miles, Hot Lap
- Marathon relay teams, teams of 2 to 6
Entry fees listed are $25 for kids 17 and under, $25 for the Hot Lap, $40 for the half marathon, $40 for the marathon, and $70 to $200 for relay teams. Adult prices increase on May 28th.
People of all ages and a range of abilities are welcome; race organizers note that much of the course invites power hiking. Four-legged training partners are allowed on or off leash. Off leash dogs must have good recall and be kept away from the snack table. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
