Nitty Gritty Off Road Race
The event is held at Red Lodge Mountain Resort in Montana. It is described as an off road marathon, with routes that feature dirt roads and single track trails, plus significant climbing.
Participants can choose from several event formats:
- Solo Half Marathon
- Hot Lap
- Solo Marathon
- Marathon Relay (for teams of 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 people)
The course consists of continuous loops, each approximately 4.31 miles long. Each loop gains around 1,150 feet in elevation and involves a mix of single track, access roads, and bushwhacking. The route is marked with flagging and signs. There are no aid stations on the course, but runners pass by the start line area where snacks, water, and restrooms are available. Carrying water and snacks for sections between the start area is recommended.
Organizers require all participants to carry bear spray; some may be available to borrow. Carrying a phone is recommended. Event medics are present at the main base area. Dogs are allowed to run with participants on or off leash. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
