Back Roads Half & 10k
The Back Roads Half & 10k takes place in Red Lodge, Montana, offering participants a route through rolling rural roads with views of the Beartooth Mountains. The event is held on a Sunday during the fall season and features two primary distances:
- Half Marathon (13.1 Miles)
- 10k (6.2 Miles)
The courses consist primarily of gravel surfaces with some paved sections. While the terrain generally features minimal elevation gain, both routes include significant hills. The 10k course includes a short, steep hill within the first mile, while the Half Marathon features a longer, less steep incline during the first mile. Both distances conclude with a steep trail downhill section leading to the finish line.
Walkers are permitted to participate in the 10k event. Strollers are also allowed on the course, though the terrain includes steep sections and the final trail downhill. Due to the presence of livestock and livestock guardian dogs along the rural route, pets are not permitted at the event. For 10k participants, a marked turn provides an option to return directly to the start area. Shuttles are used during the event, though they cannot accommodate strollers or car seats.
