Event overview
The Santa Barbara Nine Trails endurance event centers on a 35-mile out-and-back trail run between the Jesusita Trailhead and the Romero Canyon Trailhead in Santa Barbara, CA. The race covers most of the Santa Barbara front country trail system and is described as having steep, rocky and technical terrain with more than ten thousand feet of ascent and descent.
Course and support
The course route includes Inspiration Point, Tunnel Trail, Rattlesnake Trail, Gibraltar Road, West Cold Spring Trail, San Ysidro Creek crossings, the Edison Catwalk, Buena Vista Trail and Romero Canyon, then returns to Jesusita by the same route. The course will be minimally marked with colored ribbon and a digital GPX map will be provided; use of GPX mapping is required. There will be full aid stations at miles 9, 17, 26, 31 and at the finish, with long unsupported sections between some stations.
Logistics and rules
No parking is available at the start/finish area; participants must arrange drop-off and pick-up. The event is timed and results are published. Registration fees are not refundable or transferable; the fee includes on-course aid, a technical tee shirt and finishers awards. The organizers hold current permits for the traditional route but may modify the course if required by the USFS. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
