Event Overview
The Nightmare In Elmwood 5k features two events: a standard 5K race and a Kids Fun Run for children aged 12 and under. It is scheduled for a Saturday in late October in the historic Elmwood Park neighborhood of downtown Columbia, South Carolina.
Course and Venue
The event utilizes a certified USA Track & Field course that goes through the Elmwood Park neighborhood. The course is described as showcasing Halloween decorations to create a themed atmosphere. The start and finish area is located behind Palmetto Life Church on Bryan Street, at 2204 Park Street.
Additional Activities and Features
Participants are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes, with awards given for the top six most creative outfits. A costume award is also part of a team challenge. All registered participants receive a race shirt, with a guarantee deadline for sizes in early October. Strollers and leashed dogs are permitted on the course.
The event includes an awards ceremony with recognition for top overall, masters, and age group finishers. There is a team discount for groups of five or more people. The event also partners with a local food bank, encouraging participants to bring non-perishable food items.

The event is hosted by GRIT Endurance, LLC. Proceeds benefit the Historic Elmwood Park Neighborhood Association, a non-profit organization focused on neighborhood enhancement.

Packet pickup is available the day before the race at a local restaurant on Franklin Street, and also on race day near the start line. Race day registration is available.
