Night Owl 5k, 10k and the 6 Hour Shuffle
The Night Owl event at Lake Elmo Park Reserve features multiple trail running options at the Nordic Center in Lake Elmo, MN. Races take place on grassy ski trails with rolling hills and looped routes.
Event options include:
- 6 Hour Shuffle - individual six-hour distance challenge
- 6 Hour Team Shuffle - teams of 2 to 4 combine distances
- Night Owl 10k - night trail 10 kilometer race
- Night Owl 5k - night trail 5 kilometer race
The 6 Hour Shuffle uses a big loop of 3.3 miles and an optional 1.2 mile "Prairie" loop. Runners must check in at the loop table after each loop so distance is recorded. The course has one aid station near the start/finish; runners pass it every 3.3 miles. The aid station typically provides snacks, fruit, and drinks; participants should bring any preferred food and a reusable water bottle.
Trail lights are provided for the 5k and 10k and for the final portion of the six-hour events, but all runners must carry supplemental lighting such as a headlamp or flashlight. The 6 Hour Shuffle is scored by completed distance and is not chip timed; 5k and 10k races use timing chips for finish results. Race bibs must be worn visibly.
Awards include handmade wooden owl trophies for top finishers in the 5k and 10k and wooden medallions for six-hour participants. Trails remain open to the public; no dogs, strollers, or bikes are allowed in the race. A park pass is required for parking, available as a day or annual pass.
