Night Challenge 4: Glendalough
This is a night mountain running event in Glendalough, County Wicklow, held on Friday 23 October 2026. The course is described as technical terrain and the route is fully marked. GPS use is not allowed.
Distances:
- Long course: 10.0 km, 490 m climb
- Short course: about 5.0 km, rejoins long course for final 2 km
The long course runs from the Glendalough Upper Lake area and includes an ascent to the summit of Derrybawn. Both courses include sections of the Wicklow Way and St Kevin's Way. The short course loops around the lower lake and passes Glendalough's round tower and St Kevin's church.
Mandatory kit is Level B Standard and must be carried. Required items include a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with the emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Organisers also require a torch suitable for night running, preferably a head torch, and recommend a backup torch or spare battery. Participants must be able to carry the kit; random checks may be carried out and lacking required items can result in denied entry or disqualification.
Entry opens 19 October 2026 and closes 22 October 2026. Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. The event entry limit is 250. Parking at the Upper Lake car park carries a €5 fee. Prizegiving will be at the Glendalough upper lake car park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
