The event raises funds for the Nicole Podkowa Patient & Caregiver Fund, which supports patients treated at Southcoast Health Cancer Care and their families. The fund provides direct assistance for utility payments, food, housing, transportation, cancer related supplies and other necessities to reduce barriers to care. Last year the event raised over $175,000 for this purpose.
In addition to runners and walkers, the event involves community committee members, volunteers, and peer to peer fundraisers. Local organizations and sponsors support the event through various roles and contributions. The day is organized to combine participation, fundraising, and community involvement in support of patients and caregivers connected to Southcoast Health Cancer Care.
