The Nicky Nook Fell Race is a midweek fell race around Scorton and Nicky Nook near Garstang in northwest Lancashire. The course is roughly 5 miles (8.1 km) with about 313 m of ascent and is run on a mixture of tracks and off-road sections. The route is partially flagged; anyone recceing the course is asked not to use the final off-road descent, which is available only on race night by permission of the landowner.
Pre-entry is available and preferred so organisers can estimate numbers; entry on the day is permitted only if the entry limit of 140 runners has not been reached. The pre-entry and entry-on-the-day fee is £8.00. The event has a permit from the Fell Runners Association and associated UK Athletics insurance.
Runners must meet a minimum age of 16. There are no junior races and teams are not permitted. FRA mandatory minimum kit is required and will be checked before number collection; required items include a waterproof full body cover with taped seams and an attached hood, a hat (not a buff), gloves, a suitable map, a compass, a whistle and emergency food.
Free soup and a roll are provided to runners after the race at the Shippon at the Applestore Café. Parking is available at the Applestore; organisers encourage car sharing and cycling where practical. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
