Newton Turkey Trot
The Newton Turkey Trot is an annual community running event held in Newton, Massachusetts. The 13th edition of this tradition takes place on a Sunday in late November, starting and finishing at Zervas Elementary School on Beethoven Avenue. The event attracts over 1,700 participants and focuses on supporting local organizations, with all proceeds donated to the Newton Food Pantry and the Centre Street Food Pantry.
Participants can choose from two distinct distances:
- 3.1 Miles (5K)
- 1 Mile (Kids Fun Run)
The 3.1 Miles course is USATF Certified and follows an out-and-back route through local neighborhoods. The path utilizes the Commonwealth Avenue carriage lane, leading runners toward Newton City Hall before looping back to the school. Newton Police monitor the roads during the event to manage traffic. Due to safety regulations, strollers and bicycles are not permitted on either course. Participants who bring dogs are required to start at the back of the pack.
The event recognizes top performers across various categories. For the 3.1 Miles race, prizes are awarded to the overall top three male and female finishers, as well as the top three in age groups ranging from 12 and under to 70 and over. In the 1 Mile kids fun run, the top male and female finishers aged 12 or under receive awards. All children in the fun run receive a medal, while the first 1200 participants in the longer race are also awarded medals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
