Lions 5K
The Lions 5K is an annual road race organized by the Newton South Booster Club to support athletics and school spirit at Newton South High School. The event is open to the public and takes place in the streets surrounding the high school on May 31, 2026. The race begins adjacent to the Newton South Preschool Program playground and finishes on the high school track at Winkler Stadium.
Early registrants who register before May 1, 2026 will receive a free t-shirt and a ticket to a prize drawing. After May 1, t-shirts are available on a first come, first served basis. Early registration fees listed are Adults $35 plus a $4.94 processing fee and Youth and Highschool Students $25 plus a $4.94 processing fee. Race day registration fees are Adults $40 and Youth and Highschool Students $30.
The race is open to individuals and to participants running as part of South athletic teams. Prizes will be awarded across multiple categories, including a Best Lion themed costume category. Teachers may request a discount code from the event organizer prior to registering.
The published course route starts at the school, follows Brandeis field access road and Brandeis Road, continues through Greenwood, Dudley, Drumlin, Hartman, Meadowbrook, Country Club Road, Arnold, Sharpe, Wheeler, Parker, and Roosevelt, then returns to Brandeis before entering the high school parking lot and completing a counter clockwise lap on the track to the finish line.
