Lions 5K

The Lions 5K is an annual community event organized by the Newton South Booster Club. Profits from the race are used to support school spirit initiatives and athletic programs at Newton South High School. The event is open to the general public and encourages participation from individuals and teams, including school-affiliated groups and self-created teams.

The event features a single distance:

  • 5 km

The course begins at Newton South High School near the preschool playground. Runners follow an access road to Brandeis Road and navigate through various local streets, including Greenwood, Dudley, and Hartman Road. The route features a short, steep hill on Dudley Road followed by a downhill section. Participants pass by Meadowbrook and Country Club Road before returning via Parker Street and Roosevelt. The final segment leads runners into the high school parking lot and into Winkler Stadium, where finishing participants complete a counter-clockwise lap on the track to reach the finish line.

Participants may choose to wear costumes, as awards are provided for several categories, including the best lion-themed attire. Those who register early are eligible to receive a commemorative t-shirt and an entry into a prize drawing. T-shirts are available on a first-come, first-served basis for individuals who register later in the spring. Registration is available for both adults and students. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
