Lions 5K
The Lions 5K is an annual community road race organized by the Newton South Booster Club to support athletics and school spirit at Newton South High School. The event is open to the public and is scheduled for May 31, 2026. Participants may register as individuals or as part of a team, including a South team or a team they create.
Participants who register before May 1, 2026 will receive a free t-shirt and a ticket to a prize drawing. After May 1, t-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration fees before race day are $35 plus a $4.94 processing fee for adults and $25 plus a $4.94 processing fee for youth and high school students. Race day registration fees are $40 for adults and $30 for youth and high school students.
Race prizes will be awarded in multiple categories, including Best Lion-themed costume. The course begins at Newton South High School adjacent to the preschool playground, follows Brandeis Road and neighborhood streets including Greenwood, Dudley, Drumlin, Hartman, Meadowbrook, Country Club Road, Arnold, Sharpe, Wheeler, Parker, and Roosevelt, then returns to Brandeis. The finish enters the high school main parking lot, proceeds to Winkler Stadium, and concludes with a counter-clockwise lap on the track to the track finish line.
