Newton Hills Trail Race
The Newton Hills Trail Race is scheduled for October 10, 2026 in Canton, South Dakota at Newton Hills State Park. The event is organized by Run Sioux Falls and marks the 10th year of the Trail Run Series and the 25th anniversary of Newton Hills in 2026.

Both distances use trails in Newton Hills State Park and start and finish in the same area by the picnic shelter near the suspension bridge (Blue Diamond Trail Head). The 2 mile course follows the Woodland Trail single track loop and includes one large hill. The 6 mile course begins in the opposite direction, passes the horse camp and multi-purpose trails, includes three prominent climbs, then joins the 2 mile Woodland loop to return to the start/finish area. Course lengths are approximately 2 miles and 6 miles.
Races are chip timed. All state parks require a park permit or day pass to enter. Organizers have restored race swag for participants; items may vary by year. Entry fees through the registration cutoff are $40 for most entrants and $15 for those 18 years old and under. Registration closes Wednesday, October 7 at 4:00 PM CT. The event is part of a points series with age divisions and sequential points awarded from 10 down to 1. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
