Newton Hills Trail Race - October 10, 2026
The Sioux Falls Area Running Club stages the Newton Hills Trail Race at Newton Hills State Park near Canton, South Dakota. The event offers two approximate race lengths: a short single-track loop and a longer route that covers most park trails and includes multiple climbs.
Distances:
- 2 miles : starts near the picnic shelter and follows the Woodland Trail single-track loop.
- 6 miles : begins in the opposite direction, goes down a service road through the horse camp, follows multi-purpose trails with three prominent climbs, then joins the 2 mile Woodland Trail loop back to the start area.
Race history and series details are provided by the organizing club. The trail series has run events at Newton Hills since 2002 and adopted the current distances in 2007. The 2026 season marks the 10th year of the Trail Run Series and the 25th anniversary of Newton Hills in the series. Age divisions for series points are 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus. Series points are awarded from 10 points for first place down to 1 point for tenth place; overall champions and top finishers receive awards.
Additional notes: chip timing is provided by a timing company, a park day pass is required for entry, pets are not allowed in the Trail Race Series, and event swag will be offered for all races.
