Newton Hills Trail Race - October 10, 2026
The Newton Hills Trail Race is organized by the Sioux Falls Area Running Club at Newton Hills State Park in Canton, SD. The event offers two measured route options and uses chip timing provided by 605 Running Company. A state park day pass is required for entry. Pets are not allowed in the Trail Race Series.
The race layout begins and ends near the picnic shelter by the suspension bridge at the Blue Diamond Trail Head. The shorter route follows the Woodland Trail single-track loop, which includes one large hill before returning to the start/finish area. The longer route begins in the opposite direction, descends a service road through the horse camp onto multi-purpose trails, includes three prominent climbs and stretches of flatter trail, completes a roughly four-mile multi-purpose loop, then joins the two-mile Woodland Trail loop to return to the finish. Distances are approximately the following:

Registration information notes a standard fee of $40 and a reduced fee of $15 for participants 18 years old and under through the registration cutoff. Registration closes on Wed, Oct 7 at 4:00 PM CT. The event is part of a Trail Run Series that marks its tenth year in 2026 and ties series points to age divisions, with adjusted age groups including 50-59 and 60+ and series awards for top finishers.
