Newburgh Derby Dash
The Newburgh Derby Dash is a running and walking event held along the riverfront in the historic district of Newburgh, Indiana. Organized by Historic Newburgh, Inc., the event takes place on the banks of the Ohio River and encourages participants to wear Kentucky Derby attire, such as large hats, bow ties, and bright colors.
Participants can choose between two different distances:
- 5K timed running race
- 1 Mile walking route
The courses for both distances begin and end at the intersection of State and Water Streets. The routes follow the French Island Trail and pass by Old Lock and Dam Park, providing views of the Ohio River throughout the duration of the event. The 5K includes a turnaround point located near Newburgh Overlook Park.
The event is held in conjunction with local festivities, as the Historic Newburgh Beer and Wine Festival opens in the riverfront area following the completion of the races. All registered participants receive a custom t-shirt. The 5K race is a timed event with awards provided for various male and female age groups.
