Newburgh Derby Dash
The Newburgh Derby Dash takes place along the riverfront in Newburgh, Indiana. This event offers participants the opportunity to run or walk along the scenic Ohio River. The start and finish lines are located at the intersection of State and Water Streets, near the Marida Mediterranean Restaurant.
The course utilizes the French Island Trail, providing views of the river throughout the duration of the event. Participants pass visible landmarks such as the Old Lock and Dam Park. While the route is primarily flat along the trail, the turnaround point for the longer distance is positioned just before the incline leading toward Newburgh Overlook Park.
Available distances include:
- 5 km running race
- 1 mile walk
The 5 km event is a timed race with awards provided for various male and female age groups. The 1 mile option is an out-and-back route designed for walkers and families. All registered participants receive a custom event t-shirt.
Participants are encouraged to wear Kentucky Derby attire, such as large hats, bow ties, and bright colors, to match the theme of the day. Following the conclusion of the races, the Historic Newburgh Beer and Wine Festival opens in the afternoon at the same riverfront location.
