Event overview
The Newark Mile 4k is an annual road race held during the Newark Days celebration. The event is presented by Newark Days and the CXC4L Alumni Association and is staged as the 41st running. The race distance is 4k (2.5 mile) and it follows the traditional parade route through Newark. The event is USATF sanctioned.
Logistics and course
The start and finish are located at the intersection of Chapman Drive and Cedar Boulevard in front of the Newark Community Center, 35501 Cedar Blvd., Newark, CA. The course runs eastbound on Cedar Boulevard, includes a left U-turn near Lake Boulevard, continues onto Newark Boulevard with a U-turn near Musick Avenue, and returns to finish on Cedar Boulevard. Early packet pick-up is offered the Sunday before the race in front of the Newark Community Center; on-race-day check-in and bib pickup occur at the same location. Parking in Newark Days lots will not be available due to street closures; participants and spectators are advised to use nearby residential street parking or to walk or bike if located close by. Portable restrooms are available near the community center.
Additional activities and awards
A free Newark Mile 4kids race of about 50 meters is held for young children near the check-in area. All finishers receive a special-edition finisher medal and a T-shirt while supplies last. Awards include trophies for first overall male and female, first Newark resident male and female, trophies for first in each age group, and medals for the top three in each age group. Age groups span 0–14, 15–25, 26–35, 36–45, 46–55, 56–65, and 66+. Results and photos are posted after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
