Canyon of the Eagles New Year Trail Challenge : event overview
This event takes place at Canyon of the Eagles in Burnet, Texas, along limestone bluffs and trails with views of the Colorado River. Multiple trail distances are offered on looped courses that run along riverfront trails and wooded terrain. The 100K and 50K ultramarathons use a looped course; per-loop elevation is listed as 512 feet gain and 531 feet loss. Bald eagles and other wildlife may be visible from the course.
Cutoff times are provided for several distances: the 100K and 50K have a 24 hour cutoff, while the 25K and ruck divisions list a 12 hour cutoff. Some events include a ruck division in which participants carry a weighted backpack. Weight requirements vary by event and by participant weight; examples in event materials include Men 20 lb and Women 10 lb for shorter rucks, and minimums of 20 lb or 30 lb based on participant body weight for longer ruck divisions. Weight verification is performed at the start and finish of ruck events.
The program includes standard running and ruck options across distances and notes recommended gear such as a rucksack with reflective elements, proper footwear, and hydration systems for trail conditions. The 5K and 10K events are organized in partnership with Healthy Kids Running Series Cedar Park and state that proceeds support HKRS Cedar Park youth running programs.
