New Year Trail Challenge - Canyon of the Eagles
This two-day trail event takes place at Canyon of the Eagles near Burnet, Texas on January 1 and 2, 2027. It offers multiple running and ruck divisions on looped trails that include river views and limestone bluffs along the Colorado River.
Distances offered include:
- 100K : 62.2 miles (ultramarathon)
- 50K : 31.1 miles (ultramarathon)
- Marathon : 26.2 miles
- Half Marathon : 13.1 miles
- 10K
- 5K
The 100K and 50K ultramarathons use a looped course on trails and alongside the river. The listed elevation change per loop is 512 ft gain and 531 ft loss. The ultramarathon cutoff is 24 hours. The marathon route is described as varied natural scenery and trails; running or hiking poles are recommended for that distance.
Ruck divisions are available for several distances. Ruck entries have stated minimum weight requirements and weight verification procedures; weights are checked at the start and finish and participants must maintain the required weight during the event. Some ruck guidance recommends specific rucksack setups and hydration systems.
