Event Overview

The New River Rush Adventure Race is a 15-hour multisport event. It is sanctioned by USARA, meaning participants can earn points toward national rankings. The event takes place at ACE Adventure Resort in Minden, WV, within the New River Gorge National Park.

Course Details

The race consists of three main disciplines:

  • Guided whitewater paddling for 1.5 to 3 hours.
  • Mountain biking for approximately 30 miles on a mix of single-track, double-track, gravel, and paved terrain.
  • A trek covering 5 to 15 total miles across two legs, featuring trail and off-trail movement.

The race organization has three possible course designs (Fair Weather, Poor Weather, Severe Weather), with the final decision made 48 hours before the event based on conditions.

Logistics and Rules

Logistical support includes gear transport. Each person may bring one small dry bag for the paddle section. A mandatory team-supplied 27-gallon tote is used to transport race packs and gear. The outfitter provides personal flotation devices (PFDs) and helmets; participants cannot bring their own. Transition areas will be available for resupply, and some will be co-located with open restaurants. Post-race amenities include hot showers, a changing room, and a hot meal.

Mandatory Gear

Required individual gear includes appropriate clothing, a small dry bag, water, food, an emergency blanket, a whistle, a bike helmet, bike lights (front and rear), and a mountain bike. Required team gear includes a first aid kit, a fully charged cell phone, the 27-gallon tote, and a GPS tracker, maps, rules of travel, and an epunch thumbstick (all provided by the race organization).
