Nelson Marathon
The Nelson Marathon is scheduled for 11 July 2026 in Nelson Tasman, New Zealand, with courses on Moturoa Rabbit Island and sections of the Great Taste Trail. The event offers marathons and team relays on trails that are mostly off road, with a revised start that begins with 2.7 km of sealed bike track before joining gravel trail.
All courses follow a predominantly waterfront route around the Waimea Inlet. Runners pass estuarine habitat undergoing community restoration work and may see shorebirds and coastal wildlife such as banded rail and bar tailed godwit, White Heron, Kingfisher, Oystercatcher and Pied Stilt. The route is flat and runs along trails and coastline, providing views of the Mt Arthur and Richmond ranges and changing tidal light.
Race options and entry conditions include:
- Marathon 42.2 km - age 16 upwards - standard entry $80 per person
- Half Marathon 21.1 km - age 14 upwards - standard entry $65 per person
- 2 Person Marathon Relay 21.1 km each leg - age 14 upwards - standard entry $65 per person
