NBS Nelson Marathon
The NBS Nelson Marathon is a community fundraising event in Nelson Tasman scheduled for 11 July 2026. The event is organised by Active4Good and directs proceeds to promoting active recreation in the region. It began in 2014 and continues with a low‑cost entry model.
The courses run predominantly along the Great Taste Trail and the Moturoa/Rabbit Island tracks, with about 99% off road. All revised courses begin with 2.7 km of sealed bike track before joining gravel trail. Most of the route follows the waterfront around the Waimea Inlet, an estuarine environment with active habitat restoration and visible native birdlife such as white heron, kingfisher, oystercatcher and pied stilt. The route is described as flat and fast, with changing light and tide conditions and views of the Mt Arthur and Richmond ranges.
The marathon course includes a swing bridge with an 11 person load capacity, several road crossings and shared use trail sections where runners must take care around other users. There are eight official water and aid stations spaced along the route, and toilets at several points including Tic Toc Road and Sandeman Reserve. Race packs can be collected at the Livibrook complex the day before the event. Every participant receives a medal.
