Nehemiah's Memorial 5K Run/Walk
Nehemiah's Memorial 5K Run/Walk is a memorial event held on September 19, 2026, in Heyworth, Illinois. The event honors a 2 year old son who passed away on September 20, 2024. The course distance is 5K and official race times will be provided to participants after the event.
Proceeds benefit While We're Waiting, an organization that offers free weekend retreats and local grief support groups for parents who have experienced the loss of a child. Funds from this event will fully fund the annual budget for a local grief support group that meets monthly from September through May, covering dinner and childcare for attending families. One hundred percent of remaining proceeds will support free weekend retreats run by While We're Waiting. The organizers reported a prior donation of over $5,000 to the organization.
Registration opens August 17 and closes on September 1. Early registration is $10 per person through August 31; the price increases to $15 on September 1. Race t-shirts are available for purchase for $20 with an order deadline of September 4.
Check-in and bib pick-up take place at the park gazebo at Heyworth Splash Pad Park. The 5K run/walk starts on Cole Street just south of Splash Pad Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
