NAV4 Lakes in A Day Recce - Ambleside to Cartmel

This guided reconnaissance event covers the third section of the Lakes in A Day (LiAD) route, specifically the stretch from Ambleside to Cartmel. Organized by NAV4 on behalf of Durty Events, the session is designed for participants of the full LiAD ultra-marathon or the LiAD Half who wish to familiarize themselves with the course alongside experienced tutors and guides.

The route for this section covers approximately 22 miles with a total ascent of 2000 feet. The course is situated on the flatter and lower mountain areas of the second half of the main event. Participants will encounter terrain consisting primarily of established trails and some lanes, with minimal amounts of rough or wet ground.

The day focuses on practical preparation and includes advice on several topics:

  • Route navigation and strategy
  • Suitable clothing, gear, and shoe choices
  • Nutrition and hydration management
  • Specific training methods

Logistics include provided transport from the finish point back to the starting location before the run begins. While the terrain is generally accessible, the session emphasizes navigation skills for this section, as many competitors often reach this part of the route after dark during the race. Participant numbers are limited to 15 people to ensure personalized guidance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
