NAV4 Lakes Mountain 40
The NAV4 Lakes Mountain 40 is a mountain running event held in April. The course follows a figure of eight layout that starts and finishes at the Askham Community Centre. The route covers a mix of Lakeland ridge lines, trails, and valleys within the National Park.
The event offers two distance options:
- 40 miles
- 27 miles
The full 40 mile course involves approximately 2500 meters of total ascent. Runners traverse several notable summits, including Loadpot, High Street, Helvellyn, and Place Fell. Specific checkpoints along the route include Angle Tarn, Patterdale, Grisedale Tarn, and Martindale.
Participation is limited to 50 starters, and the event is intended for those with experience in mountain running. Runners are required to carry full bad weather mountain gear, including waterproofs, thermal layers, a head torch, compass, map, and a survival bag.
The event venue in Askham is located five miles from Penrith and the M6 motorway, providing access to rail connections and local accommodation. Participants using campervans or campercans have the option to stay overnight at the venue for an additional fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
