Event Overview
The NAV4 Lakes Mountain 40 is a 40-mile fell running route in the Lake District. It includes approximately 10,000 feet of ascent and descent, traversing a variety of mountain terrain, including the summits of Helvellyn and High Street.
Route and Checkpoints
The course uses mountain paths, trails, tracks, and some tarmac. Runners have free route choice over open access land between checkpoints. The route is a figure of eight, starting and finishing at Askham Community Centre. Checkpoints include Loadpot, High Street, Angle Tarn, Patterdale, Grisedale Tarn, Helvellyn, Place Fell, and Martindale Church.
Three main checkpoints on the roadside will provide hot and cold drinks and some small savory and sweet nibbles.
Kit Requirements
The event requires full winter running gear due to high and exposed mountain running. This includes a waterproof jacket and trousers, a winter-weight long-sleeved thermal base layer, long thermal leg covering, a spare fleece or primaloft jacket, a warm hat and gloves, a head torch, a compass, a whistle, a map, a survival bag, and a mug or bottle.
