NAV4 Lakes Mountain 40

NAV4 Lakes Mountain 40 is a mountain trail event on Saturday 18 April 2026. The route is around 40 miles with roughly 2,500 m of ascent. A shorter option is offered. Entry fee is £55. Entry is limited to 100 starters (the system allows 110 to allow about 10% DNS). Entries open 23 October 2025 and close 13 April 2026. The event is organised by NAV4 and the start and finish are at Askham Community Centre.

Route and checkpoints

The route runs on Lakeland mountain paths and ridge lines and includes mountain summits such as High Street and Helvellyn. Checkpoints listed on the route are Loadpot, High Street, Angle Tarn, Patterdale, Grisedale Tarn, Helvellyn, Patterdale (again), Place Fell and Martindale. The course is described as a figure-of-eight.

Logistics and kit

The venue is Askham, on the edge of the National Park, about five miles from Penrith and the M6, with rail connections via Penrith. Overnight floor space in Askham Village Hall is available on Friday for £10 per person; campervans are welcome for a £10 overnight fee. Full bad-weather mountain running kit is required; examples listed include waterproofs, warm layers, head torch, compass, map, food and drink, survival bag and whistle.
