Event Overview
The Naughty Hog is an endurance trail running event. It takes place at Ray Roberts Lake State Park, Johnson Branch Unit, near Valley View, Texas. The event features distances of 100K, 50K, 25K, 25K RUCK, 10K, and 5K. The course uses a 25-kilometer loop with out-and-back sections for the shorter distances.
Course Details
The course uses dirt single track trails, rooty sections, ATV roads, and some paved trails. The 5K distance is run entirely on pavement. The terrain is described as hilly, with approximately 900 feet of elevation gain per 25K loop. The event is a "no cup" race, meaning participants must bring their own water-carrying system. Pacers are allowed for the 100K distance, limited to one per runner and only on the third and fourth 25K loops.
Schedule and Location
The event is held on a Saturday in December. Packet pickup is available the afternoon before and on the morning of the event. A headlamp is required for 100K participants. There is an 18-hour cutoff time for all events, ending early Sunday morning.
Participation Details
For the 25K RUCK division, weight requirements apply: a 30-pound ruck for participants over 150 pounds, and a 20-pound ruck for those under 150 pounds. Ruck sacks or vests are allowed. All finishers receive a hand-crafted finisher medal. Special finisher medals are awarded for the 50K distance, and a finisher buckle is awarded for the 100K distance. First-place awards are given for all distances, and a "Dead Freakin' Last" award is given for the 100K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
