Course, rules and rucking
The course uses single-track trail with several road crossings and about 25 miles of trail that is less traveled in places. The trail can be rugged in sections. The 50-miler is an out-and-back route from Garrison Creek and can accumulate up to 6,000 feet of elevation gain. Marathon runners are transported to the trail end and run back, including a 2.5-mile loop past the finish to reach the full marathon distance. Ruckers and 13-mile participants are transported to their respective starting points.
Participants must remain on designated trails and avoid roads; runners found off course on roads will be disqualified. Pacers and outside aid are not allowed. The event follows leave-no-trace rules and course tampering or littering can lead to disqualification. Runners must carry their own hydration devices as aid stations may not provide cups. Supporters must not stop on the roadside of the Natchez Trace Parkway; designated rest stops are available. The rucking division requires dry weights of 20 lb for participants over 150 lb and 10 lb for participants under 150 lb; weight must be in stamped plates or similar and may be checked. Custom awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
