Event Information
The NAMI Sauk Area 5K is a fundraising run/walk taking place in Sterling, Illinois. It is the 11th annual event for the organization NAMI, which stands for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The goal of the fundraiser is to raise awareness and support for families dealing with mental illness. All funds go directly to NAMI Sauk Area's services and programs.
The event offers two participation formats: an in-person 5K Run/Walk and a Virtual Run/Walk. The in-person event is held at Hoover Park. Bib and swag pick-up is available on the Friday before at Sinnissippi Park and on race day at the Hoover Park Red Barn.
Event Details
Several specific rules and services are noted:
- Strollers are allowed but must start behind the walkers. Pets are not allowed on the course.
- A bag check is available inside the Red Barn, though the organization is not responsible for items.
- A boxed lunch and water will be provided to all participants, prepared by a licensed restaurant kitchen.
- Teams of four adults receive a discount. The fastest three teams win a trophy.
- Awards are given for overall top male and female finishers, as well as top three males and females in numerous age groups. A special "Bob Hutchison Record Breaker Award" offers a cash prize for breaking the male or female course record.
