Music City Triathlon
The Music City Triathlon is a multi-distance triathlon held on the East Bank of the Cumberland River adjacent to Nissan Stadium in Nashville, TN. The event offers sprint and Olympic distances with multiple race formats including individual triathlon, swim-bike, bike-run, duathlon, aquabike, and 2- or 3-person relays. The race benefits The Store and marks its 48th year in 2027.
Swim, bike, and run distances:
- Sprint swim: 300 m
- Olympic swim: 1.1 km
- Sprint bike: 20 km
- Olympic bike: 40 km
- Sprint run: 5 km
- Olympic run: 6 miles
Swim details note two start locations: Olympic swimmers board the General Jackson Showboat and swim with the current; sprint swimmers start from the East Bank boat dock under the Shelby Pedestrian Bridge. Swimmers enter the water in a time-trial format approximately every 3 to 5 seconds and exit at a concrete beach landing. Wetsuit use follows USAT temperature rules with permitted, mandatory, allowed, and prohibited ranges specified by the organizers.
The bike course is primarily on a completely closed Ellington Parkway with the Olympic course run as two 20 km loops and the sprint as a single loop. The route to and from Ellington Parkway is flat while the parkway itself has steady inclines and matching downhills. Transition staging is adjacent to the south side of Nissan Stadium in Lot R with bike racks organized by race number.
The run is a flat out-and-back course that exits under the Shelby Pedestrian Bridge, follows S 1st and Davidson Street to a turnaround near Shelby Park, and finishes on Victory Lane between Nissan Stadium and the transition area. Olympic runners complete two loops with a turnaround under the Korean Veterans Boulevard Bridge. Timing uses disposable ankle-chip bands, bibs, bike frame numbers, and helmet numbers.
Awards include top overall placements for male, female, and non-binary athletes, age-group awards in standard divisions, Clydesdale and Athena categories by weight, paratriathlete recognition, and team awards for relay entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
