Murderkill Ultramarathons
Murderkill Ultramarathons take place at Killen's Pond State Park in Felton, DE. The event offers these options:
- 50 mile
- 50K
- 12 hour option
The course is an approximately 3.10 mile loop contained within the park. Surface is almost all dirt with some roots, occasional rocks and small rubble. Elevation gain is low, roughly 80 feet per loop. The north portion of the Pondside Trail is broad and sandy with organics, while the south portion is single track with roots. The loop includes a roughly 0.28 mile circuit around the parking lot and an aluminum footbridge of about 0.2 miles.
The picnic area serves as the event base. Bathrooms are about 50 yards from the picnic tables; a porta-john may be present near the boat ramp sometimes. Races are self-supported with a community table for shared food and drink. Water will be provided. Timing is manual by loop check-off and recording of finish times. The event follows a Fat Ass style format: no guaranteed aid beyond water, no medals, no chip timing, and shirts only if preordered.
Entry is capped at 30 participants per race. There is no waitlist, no transfers, and no refunds. Registration fee is capped at $40 plus processing fees and covers park permit and related costs; any small excess will be donated to the park.
The park is about 15 miles south of Dover on U.S. Route 13. Parking is ample and close to the course. The park follows a pack in, pack out policy. Expect hot and humid summer conditions. The event runs rain or shine except for thunderstorms, during which all runners will be removed from the course and further loops will not be permitted.
