MTC Zilla Tri - Columbia, Illinois
MTC Zilla Tri is a triathlon event at Bolm-Schuhkraft Park in Columbia, Illinois, organized by the Metro-Tri Club. The program includes a Sprint Triathlon, a Youth Short Sprint for ages 10 to 17, and a clinic with a course preview.
Event distances and formats:
- Sprint Triathlon: 300 m swim, 11.2 mi bike, 5 km run
- Youth Short Sprint: 200 m swim, 6 mi bike, 2 mi run
- Clinic and course preview: transition practice and easy-paced bike preview
Swims take place in the Columbia Bath and Tennis pool using serpentine formats. Bike courses are on open roads, mostly flat with one notable hill and a railroad crossing; the bike leg is non-draft legal. Run courses go through neighborhoods and trails with shaded sections. Athletes aged 14 to 17 may choose either the Youth Short Sprint or the full Sprint distance.
The event is USAT sanctioned; USAT rules apply, including plugged bar ends and drafting regulations, and USAT officials will be on course. Registration opens February 15 and online registration is available until August 1; registering by July 13 guarantees a race shirt in the requested size. All athletes must pick up their own packet in person and present photo ID and a USAT membership card or purchase a membership or one-day pass.
Awards are given to top overall finishers and age-division top three placings. In case of lightning the swim will be replaced by a run; severe weather may lead to cancellation with no refunds or rescheduling. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
