MTC Zilla Tri
The MTC Zilla Tri is a multi-event triathlon weekend hosted by the Metro-Tri Club at Bolm-Schuhkraft Park, 1200 N Evergreen Lane, Columbia, Illinois. The event program includes a Sprint Triathlon, a Youth Short Sprint Triathlon, and a triathlon clinic and course preview. Age categories on the event pages start at 10 years old; the Sprint is open to ages 14 and up and the Youth Short Sprint to ages 10 to 17. Athletes aged 14 to 17 may choose either the Youth Short Sprint or the full Sprint.
Distances:
- Sprint: 300 m swim, 11.2 mile bike, 5 km run
- Youth Short Sprint: 200 m swim, 6 mile bike, 2 mile run
Course details note the pool swim uses a serpentine format at Columbia Bath and Tennis pool. The bike courses are mostly flat with one challenging hill and include a railroad crossing; bike rules are non-draft legal and train stoppage time is not adjusted. Run courses pass through neighborhood streets and trails and include shaded sections.
The event is USAT sanctioned. USAT rules apply including the requirement to plug bar ends and follow drafting regulations; USAT officials will be on course. Packet pickup requires each athlete to pick up their own packet and to present photo ID and a USAT membership card or purchase a USAT pass at pickup if not already a member.
If lightning occurs the swim will convert to a run (1k for Sprint, 0.5 mile for Youth). In cases of severe weather the race may be canceled or modified; canceled events are not rescheduled and refunds or transfers are not provided. Awards are planned for overall top finishers and age-division placings in the Sprint and Youth categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
