MTC Zilla Tri
The MTC Zilla Tri is an annual multi-sport event hosted by the Metro-Tri Club in Columbia, Illinois. The event is based in Bolm-Schuhkraft Park and features courses that utilize the Columbia Bath and Tennis pool, local flat roads, and shaded trails. This triathlon is USAT sanctioned, meaning USAT rules apply and officials are present on the course.
Participants can choose from several event options:
- Sprint Triathlon: A 300-meter serpentine swim, an 11.2-mile non-draft legal bike course, and a 5K run.
- Youth Short Sprint Triathlon: A 200-meter serpentine swim, a 6-mile non-draft legal bike course, and a 2-mile run.
- MTC Zilla Triathlon Clinic & Course Preview: An introductory session held prior to the main race day.
The bike portions of both races consist of mostly flat terrain with one hill and a railroad crossing. The run courses pass through residential neighborhoods and include sections with shade. The Sprint event is open to athletes aged 14 and older, while the Youth Short Sprint is designed for participants aged 10-17. Athletes between 14 and 17 years old have the option to compete in either distance.
Top finishers and age-division winners receive awards in both the Sprint and Youth Short Sprint categories. In the event of lightning, the swim portion is replaced with a run of 1 km for the Sprint or 0.5 miles for the Youth Short Sprint. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
