MTC Zilla Tri
MTC Zilla Tri is a USAT sanctioned triathlon event held in Columbia, Illinois, at Bolm-Schuhkraft Park. The program includes a Sprint race, a Youth Short Sprint for ages 10 to 17, and a clinic with a course preview.
Race formats and course notes:
- Sprint Triathlon: 300 meter serpentine pool swim; 11.2 mile bike on mostly flat roads with one notable hill and a railroad crossing; 5 kilometer run through neighborhood and trail with shade.
- Youth Short Sprint: 200 meter serpentine pool swim; 6 mile bike on mostly flat roads with one notable hill and a railroad crossing; 2 mile run through a shaded neighborhood.
- Clinic and course preview: instruction on transition process, experienced triathletes on-site, and an easy paced bike route preview. Athletes should bring a bike and helmet.
Eligibility and rules: the Sprint is open to ages 14 and up; the Youth Short Sprint is for ages 10 to 17. Athletes aged 14 to 17 may choose either race. USAT rules apply; bar ends must be plugged, drafting rules are enforced, and USAT officials will be on course.
Logistics and contingencies: packet pick-up is at McDonnold Blvd in Bolm-Schuhkraft Park; athletes must pick up their own packet and present photo ID and USAT membership or purchase a one day pass. In case of lightning the swim will be replaced by a run distance. Severe weather may cause cancellation with no refunds or rescheduling.
