Event details
The MTC Pendragon is a single-day ultra running event scheduled for 17 April 2026. The route covers approximately 46 miles (route data lists 46.3 miles) and is designated as Day 4 of the MTC CYMRUN six-day end-to-end challenge of Wales. Most of the course follows National Cycle Route 8 from Llanidloes to Glasbury, with a short deviation of about one mile at the start. Reported total ascent is 4,170 ft and total descent 4,429 ft. All finishers receive a bespoke Pendragon medal; male and female champions receive trophies.
Logistics and rules
The race starts at the Red Lion Hotel, Llanidloes, and finishes at the River Wye Activity Centre, Glasbury. Checkpoints are located along the route at roughly 8.6, 16.8, 25.2, and 34.1 miles. Entry is limited to 20 standard competitors plus up to 20 additional CYMRUN entrants (maximum 40). Entrants must be 20 years or over on the start day. The event enforces preset cut-offs based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files, plus real-time tracking, are provided to entrants only; competitors are issued tracking devices with SOS functionality. The race is cup-free; competitors must carry a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
