Event Overview
The MTC Pendragon is a 46-mile (approximately 46.3-mile) ultramarathon. It is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series and also serves as Day 4 of the six-day CYMRUN, an end-to-end race across Wales. The event is quadrennial, taking place every four years, with the next edition in 2026 and the following in 2030.
The Route
The route starts at the Red Lion Hotel in Llanidloes and finishes at the River Wye Activity Centre in Glasbury. The course primarily follows the scenic National Cycle Route 8. The total ascent is listed as 4,170 ft with a descent of 4,429 ft. There are four checkpoints along the route.
Participant Information
The race has a strict participant limit of 20 for the standalone Pendragon event, with an additional 20 slots for competitors undertaking the full CYMRUN challenge, making a maximum of 40 participants. A minimum pace requirement of 4 mph is enforced, with cut-off times at checkpoints based on this pace. Competitors who fall below this pace may be withdrawn from the event. The event is cup-free, requiring participants to bring their own reusable cup.
Mandatory Kit & Provisions
Participants are required to carry specific equipment, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. Tracking devices with an SOS function are provided by the organizer. Checkpoints will offer food such as malt loaf, sandwiches, cake, sweets, and drinks.

The entry fee for the MTC Pendragon is £90. An upgraded "Plus Race Package" for £155 includes an embroidered race shirt and a hi-viz jacket, but must be booked at least four weeks before the event. All finishers receive a bespoke Pendragon medal, and the male and female champions receive a trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
