MTC MORAG
The MTC MORAG is a single-day ultra running event forming Day 7 of the Mount to Coast SCOTIA nine-day end-to-end series. The advertised race distance is 45 miles; route data lists a total of 44.8 miles with about 2,543 ft of ascent and 2,539 ft of descent. This is the first edition of the event.
The route links the Inverness area through to Dornoch with four main check points at Knockbain, Dingwall, Invergordon and Tain. Organiser cut-off times are based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this threshold will be warned and may be withdrawn if the minimum is not met on consecutive stages. Competitor numbers are limited to 20 plus an allowance of 20 SCOTIA entrants, for a maximum of 40.
Maps and GPX files are supplied by the organiser to entrants only and are emailed approximately four weeks before the race. Each competitor receives a tracking device for real-time monitoring; the device includes an SOS button. The event is cup-free and competitors must provide their own reusable cup.
Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, the organiser’s route maps, a compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, a basic first aid kit and an emergency food pack. Entry fees are non-refundable; standard entry is listed at £90 and a plus package including an embroidered shirt and hi-viz jacket is offered at £155 if ordered in advance. All finishers receive a MORAG medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
