Event Overview
The MTC Merry Maidens is a single day ultra marathon covering a distance of 35 miles (34.5 miles according to route data). The course takes participants from Truro through to Lands End in Cornwall. This event serves as the thirteenth and final day of the MTC Albion, a multi-day end-to-end challenge across England. It also follows the same path as the JOGLE race but with reduced daily distances.
The route features an approximate ascent of 2,724 feet and a descent of 2,835 feet. There are three established checkpoints along the course located in Carnkie, Helston, and Penzance.
Participation and Regulations
Registration is limited to a total of 40 participants, which includes 20 spots for single-day runners and 20 spots for those completing the full Albion challenge. All entrants must be at least 20 years old on the day of the race.
The event enforces a mandatory minimum pace of 4 mph. Participants who fall below this average speed will be withdrawn from the competition. This is a cup-free event, meaning runners must carry their own reusable drinking vessels.
Mandatory Equipment
Participants are required to carry specific safety gear, including:
- A backpack
- A head torch with spare batteries
- A compass or GPS device
- A whistle and mobile phone
- A basic first aid kit and emergency food pack
The organizer provides a tracking device to each runner to monitor progress and provide an SOS button for emergencies.
Finishers and Amenities
All participants who complete the course receive a bespoke race medal. Individual male and female champions are awarded a unique trophy. Checkpoints provide various food items such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, and various drinks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
