Event
The MTC Merry Maidens is a single-day ultra running event listed as 35 miles and marked as the 1st edition in 2029. It forms Day 13 of the MTC ALBION thirteen-day end-to-end of England and is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. All finishers receive a bespoke Merry Maidens medal; male and female champions receive trophies. An upgrade option is available at entry to include an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket.
Route and navigation
The route follows the same course used by the organiser’s MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances. The course starts in Truro and finishes at Lands End, with checkpoint locations at roughly 8.1 miles, 16.2 miles and 24.6 miles. Total mapped distance is given as 34.5 miles with ascent of 2,724 ft and descent of 2,835 ft. Race maps and GPX files are provided to entrants and tracking devices with SOS buttons are issued to competitors.
Entries, kit and rules
Entry is limited to 20 competitors plus an allowance of 20 ALBION entrants (maximum 40). Entry fees are listed as £90 for the race and £155 for the race package with clothing. All entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day. The event enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this requirement may be withdrawn. The race is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit.
