MTC Cerridwen
The MTC Cerridwen is a quadrennial single-day ultra that forms Day 2 of the six-day MTC CYMRUN end-to-end of Wales. The course covers 50.3 miles along National Cycle Route 8, running from Travelodge Caernarfon to the Sandbanks Hotel in Barmouth.
The event is organised as an individual ultra and also as one stage within the longer CYMRUN series. Competitor numbers are limited to 20 open entries with an additional allowance of 20 places for CYMRUN entrants, giving a maximum field of 40. All payments are non-refundable, and entrants may be offered an optional personal cancellation insurance at booking.
The route uses the cycleway for its entirety and includes pre-determined check points with refreshment stations offering items such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. The race is cup-free so competitors should bring a reusable cup. Organisers provide tracking devices with SOS functionality to monitor progress.
Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and basic first aid and emergency food. The event enforces a minimum average pace of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this standard may be withdrawn.
