MTC Cerridwen - Ultra Overview

The MTC Cerridwen is a single-day ultra covering 50.3 miles along National Cycle Route 8. It is Day 2 of the six-day MTC CYMRUN end-to-end of Wales and forms one of the Myths & Legends series. The 2026 edition is the first running of Cerridwen as a quadrennial event.

The route starts at Travelodge Caernarfon and finishes at the Sandbanks Hotel in Barmouth, following the Cycle Route 8 for the full distance. Total ascent is listed at 4,806 ft with a similar descent. Checkpoints are placed along the route at roughly 10.1, 18.1, 27.2, 35.6 and 44 miles.

Entrant numbers are limited to 20 for the race plus an additional allowance of 20 for CYMRUN competitors, giving a maximum of 40. The event enforces preset cut-off times based on a minimum average pace of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn. All entrants must be aged 20 years or over on the day of the race.

All finishers receive a bespoke Cerridwen medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Entry options include a standard entry and a plus package that adds an embroidered race shirt and lightweight hi-viz jacket. Maps and GPX files, plus real-time tracking, are provided to entrants in advance. The race is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
