MTC Cerridwen overview
The MTC Cerridwen is a new ultra event held on 15 April 2026. It is the second day of the six-day Mount to Coast CYMRUN end-to-end challenge and is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. The race is a long-distance single-day ultra of 50.3 miles (listed as 50 miles) and is the first edition of this route. The event is quadrennial, returning next in 2030. All finishers receive a bespoke Cerridwen medal; male and female champions will receive bespoke trophies (currently in design).
Route, logistics and rules
The route follows National Cycle Route 8 from Travelodge Caernarfon to Sandbanks Hotel, Barmouth. Total ascent is 4,806 ft and total descent is 4,807 ft. Competitor numbers are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 for CYMRUN entrants (maximum 40). Entrants must be at least 20 years old. The organiser requires a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement will be withdrawn. Mapping and GPX files are provided to entrants only and are emailed four weeks before the event. Competitors carry supplied tracking devices with SOS capability; tracking is viewable in real time during the race. The event is cup-free and competitors must bring a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
