The Event
The MTC Cerridwen is a 50 mile ultra race. It is a single-day event but also forms Day 2 of the six-day CYMRUN multi-day challenge, which covers the length of Wales. The race is a quadrennial event, returning every four years after 2026. The entry field is limited to 40 competitors.
The Route
The route runs point-to-point from the Travelodge in Caernarfon to the Sandbanks Hotel in Barmouth. The entire course follows National Cycle Route 8. The total distance is 50.3 miles with an ascent of 4,806 ft. There are five checkpoints along the route.
Logistics & Rules
Participants must carry mandatory equipment including a backpack, head torch, map, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. A tracking device with an SOS button is provided by the organizer. The event has a strict 4 mph minimum average speed requirement; competitors falling below this pace will be withdrawn. The event is cup-free, so runners must bring their own reusable cup.
Entry & Finish
Entry fees are non-refundable. An optional upgrade includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket. All finishers receive a bespoke Cerridwen medal. Male and Female Champions receive a bespoke MTC race trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
