MTC Blue Caps overview
The MTC Blue Caps is a single-day ultra run that forms Day 4 of the MTC ALBION thirteen-day end-to-end of England. The route follows the same course used by the MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances and runs roughly 36 miles from Wigan to Tarporley. The stated start location is Premier Inn Wigan North and the finish is at The Swan at Tarporley.
Entries are limited: 20 regular places plus an allowance of 20 for ALBION competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day. Finishers receive a Blue Caps medal; male and female champions will also receive bespoke trophies that are currently in design.
The race enforces preset cut-off rules based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this standard may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants only and are emailed prior to the event. Each competitor is issued a tracking device with an SOS function to enable real-time monitoring during the race.
The event is cup-free; competitors should bring a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid kit and emergency food. Example checkpoint food may include malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. Entry options include a standard race fee and an upgraded package that includes an embroidered race shirt and hi-viz jacket. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
