MTC Blue Caps
The MTC Blue Caps is a single-day ultra running event that forms Day 4 of the MTC ALBION end to end of England series. The route follows the same course used by the organiser’s JOGLE event but with shorter daily distances, running from Premier Inn Wigan North to The Swan at Tarporley. The published route total is 35.5 miles.
Field size is limited: 20 core entries plus an allowance of 20 Albion competitors, for a maximum of 40 starters. The event enforces preset cut-offs based on a minimum average pace of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. Organisers may also remove any competitor they consider unfit to continue.
Navigation and tracking information is provided to entrants only; maps and GPX files are emailed to competitors about four weeks before the race. Each competitor receives a tracking device with an SOS button. Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and blister treatment, and a waterproof map case. The event is cup free and requires competitors to bring a reusable cup.
Check-points listed on the route include Garswood (about 8 miles), Mill Lane, Warrington (about 15.4 miles), and Little Leigh (about 24.4 miles), with the finish at The Swan, Tarporley (about 35.5 miles). All finishers receive a Blue Caps medal; male and female champions receive bespoke trophies that are still in design. Entry fees are non-refundable; an optional personal cancellation insurance policy is available at booking. Entrants must be at least 20 years old.
