MTC Bertram de Shotts - Race overview
The MTC Bertram de Shotts is a one-day ultramarathon of approximately 43 miles, held as part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. It forms Day 5 of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA multi-race. The published route runs from Atholl Arms Hotel, Pitlochry, to Forces Manor, Kingussie, with a total ascent of 2,942 ft and a total descent of 2,582 ft.
Entrant and event limits are stated: competitor places are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 places for SCOTIA competitors giving a maximum field of 40. All entrants must meet the organiser's age requirement and eligibility checks. Entry fees and a race package option are published, with deposits and payments non-refundable; an optional personal cancellation insurance may be purchased at booking.
Safety, navigation and kit requirements are specified. The organiser provides route maps and GPX files to entrants only, four weeks before the event, and issues tracking devices with SOS capability. Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. The event is cup free so competitors must bring a reusable cup.
The race uses preset cut-off points based on a minimum average of 4 mph; falling below this pace can result in warnings and withdrawal.
