MTC Bertram de Shotts - Ultra Running
The MTC Bertram de Shotts is a single-day ultra held as Day 5 of the nine-day Mount to Coast SCOTIA series. The route runs from Pitlochry through to Kingussie and covers approximately 42.6 miles. Competitor numbers are restricted to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 SCOTIA entrants for a maximum of 40 starters.
The organisers provide checkpoint support at predetermined locations including Pitlochry, Dalwhinnie and Newtonmore, and supply tracking devices with SOS capability. Maps and GPX files are issued to entrants four weeks before the event; competitors are responsible for navigation where routes are not signed. Preset cut-off times apply at checkpoints, based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; falling below this requirement may result in withdrawal.
Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. The race is cup-free so competitors must bring their own reusable cup. All finishers receive a BERTRAM de SHOTTS medal and male and female champions receive bespoke trophies. Entry fees are non-refundable; an optional personal cancellation insurance policy is available at booking. An entry upgrade can include an official race shirt and hi-viz jacket.
