MTC Bertram de Shotts
The MTC Bertram de Shotts is a single-day ultra covering approximately 43 miles, listed on route data as 42.6 miles with 2,942 ft of ascent. The course runs from the Atholl Arms Hotel in Pitlochry to Forces Manor in Kingussie and forms Day 5 of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA end-to-end series.
Entry is limited to 20 race competitors with an additional allowance of 20 MTC SCOTIA entrants, for a maximum of 40 participants. The event enforces preset cut-offs based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn. All entrants must be at least 20 years old. Finishers receive a bespoke Bertram de Shotts medal; male and female champions also receive trophies.
Maps and GPX files are issued to entrants about four weeks before the race. Organisers provide a tracking device with real-time monitoring and an SOS function. The race is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup. Example checkpoint food may include malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water.
Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
