MTC Bertram de Shotts
The MTC Bertram de Shotts is a single-day ultra marathon of approximately 43 miles held as part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. It is also Day 5 of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA series. The route runs from the Atholl Arms Hotel in Pitlochry to Forces Manor in Kingussie, with a total distance listed as 42.6 miles and an ascent of 2,942 ft and descent of 2,582 ft.
Entry is limited: 20 places for the race plus an additional allowance of 20 places for SCOTIA competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. The event enforces a minimum average pace of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. Cut-off points are in place along the route.
All finishers receive a bespoke Bertram de Shotts medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Maps and GPX files are provided only to entrants and are emailed approximately four weeks before the event. Competitors are tracked using organiser-provided devices with SOS capability.
Mandatory kit requirements include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. The race is cup-free and competitors must supply their own reusable cup. Entry fees are non-refundable; a personal cancellation insurance option and a defer option are offered at booking.
