MTC Bertram de Shotts

The MTC Bertram de Shotts is a single-day ultra marathon covering a total distance of 43 miles (recorded at 42.6 miles in route data). The course begins at the Atholl Arms Hotel in Pitlochry and concludes at Forces Manor in Kingussie. This event forms part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series and serves as day five of the nine-day SCOTIA challenge across Scotland.

The route is primarily unsupported in terms of navigation, as the course is not signed. Participants are provided with maps and GPX files four weeks prior to the event and must carry specific mandatory equipment. Required items include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, a compass or GPS device, a whistle, a mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit with blister treatment.

The event operates with a focus on safety and specific performance requirements. There is a minimum movement requirement of 4 mph; participants who fall below this average pace may be withdrawn from the race. Four designated checkpoints are located along the route, providing food items such as malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, and various drinks. This is a cup-free event, requiring runners to carry their own reusable drinking vessels.

Participation is limited to a maximum of 40 runners, which includes 20 slots for single-day entrants and 20 for those completing the multi-day series. All finishers receive a bespoke race medal, while the top male and female competitors are awarded trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
