Event

The MTC Bertram de Shotts is an ultra race held on 31st May 2028. It is listed as a 43 miles race and is also Day 5 of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA end-to-end challenge. This is the first edition of the event. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Entry options include a standard entry and a plus package that adds a race shirt and hi-viz jacket; entry fees are £90 and £155 respectively. Competitor places are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 for SCOTIA entrants, giving a maximum of 40 starters.

Course and logistics

The route runs from Atholl Arms Hotel, Pitlochry, to Forces Manor, Kingussie. Checkpoints are located at 8.8 miles, 15.8 miles, 23.8 miles, and 32.7 miles, with a listed total distance of 42.6 miles and recorded ascent of 2,942 ft and descent of 2,582 ft. The event uses preset cut-off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this average may be withdrawn. Organisers provide competitor tracking devices with SOS function and supply maps and GPX files to entrants four weeks before the race. The event is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
