Cateran Trail Ultramarathon
Held on 09 May 2026, the Cateran Trail Ultramarathon is a 55 mile race with 7,450 ft (approximately 2,250 m) of ascent. The route is a circular course that starts and finishes at Gulabin Lodge at the Spittal of Glenshee. The course is approximately 90% off road and is made up of forest trails, rough tracks and open hillside, with small sections of tarmac on quiet country roads.
The final section climbs to An Lairig Pass, offering a view down to the finish at Gulabin Lodge. The event is listed as an UTMB Index Qualifier. Entry fee is shown as £93/95 and a race t-shirt or vest is optional.
Cut-off points are set on course: Blairgowrie at 14:30 and Enochdu at 20:00, with the Enochdu cut-off being strict with no continuation onto the open hill after that time. The overall race cut-off is 15 hours.
There are no specific entry requirements but runners should be confident they can complete the distance and elevation within the cut-offs; regular completion of 20 mile runs is suggested. The race is designed to be self-sufficient so support crews are not used. Race rules include no transfer of places, no muling, no walking poles, no support runners or bike buddies and no dogs. ID is required at registration and mandatory kit must be carried, with spot-checks. Required kit includes an uncut foil blanket, a working mobile phone with the race control contact stored, and means to carry at least 1 litre of water. Registration details and the pre-race briefing will be confirmed before the event.
Deferrals are not offered except in the case of travel restrictions or lockdowns due to COVID-19. Refunds follow a cooling off and staged policy: a 30 day cooling off period with a £15 administration fee; after 30 days a 50% refund is available up to 12 weeks before race day; within 0-12 weeks no refund is offered.
