Cateran Trail Ultramarathon
The Cateran Trail Ultramarathon is scheduled for 15 May 2027. The race is a circular route starting and finishing at Gulabin Lodge at the Spittal of Glenshee, covering 55 miles with approximately 7,450 ft (2,250 metres) of ascent. It is an UTMB Index Qualifier and entry fees are listed at £103/105.
The route is approximately 90% off road and is made up of forest trails, rough tracks and open hillside, with small sections of quiet country tarmac. The final section includes a climb up to An Lairig Pass with views back towards the finish at Gulabin Lodge.
The event is organised as self sufficient to limit impact on local roads and villages. There are cut-off points at Blairgowrie and Enochdu, with a strict cut-off at Enochdu preventing continuation onto the open hill section, and an overall 15 hour cut-off. Mandatory kit must be carried for the duration of the race and spot-checks will be carried out. Required items include a full foil blanket, a working mobile phone with the race control number stored, and a means to carry at least 1 litre of water.
Entry guidance notes that there are no specific formal entry requirements, but runners should have confidence in their ability to complete the distance and elevation and be used to regularly completing runs of around 20 miles. Race rules include ID at registration, no transfer of places, no muling, no walking poles, no support runners or bike buddies, no dogs, and adherence to marshal, medical and Covid 19 protocols.
