Event overview

The Cateran Trail Ultramarathon takes place on 09 May 2026 at Gulabin Lodge, Spittal of Glenshee. The race is a single circular route of approximately 55 miles / 90 km with 7,450 ft (2,250 m) of ascent. Total places are 150 and the event status is listed as open. The organisers apply a 15-hour overall cut-off.

Course, cut-offs and rules

The route is about 90% off road - made up of forest trails, rough tracks and open hillside - with small sections of quiet country tarmac. The final section includes a climb up to An Lairig Pass with a view down to the finish at Gulabin Lodge.

There are checkpoint cut-offs at Blairgowrie (14:30) and Enochdu (20:00); the Enochdu cut-off is strict and runners will not be allowed to continue onto the open hill section after this time. The race is designed to be self-sufficient; support crews are not part of the race plan.

Entry notes state no specific qualification is required but entrants should be confident they can complete the distance and elevation within the cut-off, and regular experience of runs of around 20 miles is suggested. Race rules include ID at registration, no transfer of places, no muling, no walking poles, no support runners or bike buddies, no dogs, and mandatory kit to be carried throughout the event. Spot-checks on mandatory kit will be carried out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
