MTC BALOR
The MTC Balor is a single-day ultra running event covering 47 miles between Murphys Hotel (start) and Rolling Wave Guesthouse, Bundoran (finish). Most of the route follows the MizMal ® line provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling and it serves as Day 11 of the fourteen day MTC MizMal ® end to end of Ireland series.
Entry is limited to 20 race-only competitors plus an allowance of 20 MizMal ® competitors, for a maximum of 40 runners. Organisers apply preset cut-off points along the route based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; runners who remain below this minimum after warnings may be withdrawn. The published ascent is 1,862 ft and the descent is 1,819 ft.
All finishers receive a bespoke Balor medal. An optional upgrade at checkout can include an official race shirt and lightweight hi-viz jacket. Entry fees are published as a standard entry and a plus package; payments and deposits are non refundable. Route GPX and maps are provided to entrants by email approximately four weeks before the event. Real-time tracking devices are issued to competitors and include an SOS function.
The event is cup free so competitors must provide their own reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
