MTC Balor
The MTC Balor is a single-day ultra running event covering 47 miles. It is new for 2027 and forms Day 11 of the fourteen-day MTC MizMal® end-to-end challenge across Ireland. The route starts at Murphys Hotel, Tobercurry, follows most of the MizMal® route as provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling, and finishes at Rolling Wave Guesthouse, Bundoran.
Entry is limited to 20 dedicated race places with an additional allowance of up to 20 MizMal® competitors for a maximum of 40 runners. The event uses preset cut-off checkpoints that are based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; competitors who fall below this minimum may be withdrawn. The organisers provide a tracking device to entrants that records progress in real time and includes an SOS function for emergencies.
Maps and GPX files are reserved for entrants and are emailed to competitors approximately four weeks before the event. The race is cup-free so competitors should bring a reusable cup. All finishers receive a bespoke Balor medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Entries and payments are non-refundable, and there is an option at checkout to add personal cancellation insurance. Competitors must be at least 20 years old and carry mandatory kit such as a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
