About the race
The MTC Balor is a single-day ultra running event covering 47 miles (reported total distance 47 miles) and forms Day 11 of the fourteen-day MTC MizMal® end-to-end of Ireland. The route starts at Murphys Hotel, Tobercurry, and finishes at Rolling Wave Guesthouse, Bundoran. The course follows most of the MizMal® route and includes four timed checkpoints at approximately 8.8, 17.8, 26.9 and 36.1 miles.
Entries are limited: 20 race-only competitors plus up to 20 additional MizMal® entrants, giving a maximum of 40 runners. All finishers receive a bespoke Balor medal; male and female champions receive trophies. There is an option at checkout to upgrade the entry to include an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket. Entry fees are listed as £90 for the standard entry and £155 for the race package.
The event is cup-free so competitors must bring a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. Organisers provide a tracking device with SOS function and issue preset cut-off checkpoints based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this may be withdrawn. Competitors must be aged 18 or over and comply with the event rules, equipment and safety requirements. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
