MTC Balor - Ultra Running
The MTC Balor is a single day ultra covering a distance of 47 miles, scheduled for 17 May 2027. It forms Day 11 of the Mount to Coast MizMal Ireland end to end series and follows much of the MizMal route as provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling.
The route starts at Murphys Hotel, Tobercurry and concludes at Rolling Wave Guesthouse, Bundoran. Total ascent is listed at 1,862 ft with a similar total descent. The field is limited to 20 standalone entrants with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal competitors, for a maximum of 40 participants. This is the first edition of the MTC Balor.
Organisers set preset cut offs based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn. The event is cup free so competitors must provide a reusable cup. All finishers receive a Balor medal and male and female champions receive bespoke trophies.
Entry fees and package options are published; deposits and payments are non refundable though a defer option is available for a fee. Maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants before the event. Competitors must be aged 20 or over on the start day and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and an emergency food pack.
