MTC Balor - Ultra Running
The MTC Balor is a 47 mile point to point ultra that starts at Murphys Hotel, Tobercurry and finishes at Rolling Wave Guesthouse, Bundoran. It is Day 11 of the fourteen day MTC MizMal® end to end of Ireland and forms part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series.
The route includes four main checkpoints at approximately 8.8 miles, 17.8 miles, 26.9 miles and 36.1 miles, with a total distance of 47 miles, ascent 1,862 ft and descent 1,819 ft. Organisers operate preset cut off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this minimum may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only and are emailed about four weeks before the event. A tracking device with SOS function is issued to competitors and live tracking is available during the race.
Entry is limited to 20 race entries plus an additional allowance of 20 for MizMal entrants for a maximum of 40 competitors. Entry fees are non refundable. Entry options include a race package that can include an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi viz jacket if ordered at least four weeks before the event. All finishers receive a bespoke Balor medal and male and female champions receive trophies.
Competitors must be at least 20 years old and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps as provided, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit.
