Women's Series - Knocknarea
The Women's Series - Knocknarea is a mountain running event held in County Sligo. This race is part of the Sligo Women's Trail Series and features a fully marked route that traverses the slopes of Knocknarea. The event offers two distance options to accommodate different participants:
- 6.5 km (340 m climb)
- 4.0 km (Short course / Junior route)
The 6.5 km route begins at the tourist car park and ascends the mountain via a path to the right of the standard tourist trail. Runners navigate toward the north side of the mountain, offering views of Strandhill and Coney Island, before climbing to the summit. After passing the cairn, the course descends through a gully and follows a section of the Warriors Run route. A second steep climb leads back to the cairn before descending the initial route to the finish. The 4.0 km short course follows the main route to the cairn and returns via the same path.
Participants must adhere to Level B mandatory kit requirements, which include a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. All runners must sign in at the Knocknarea Hill Walk Carpark and display their race number on their front. The event follows Leave No Trace principles, and runners are encouraged to bring their own reusable cups for water. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
