Union Wood

Union Wood is an Irish Mountain Running Association (IMRA) event near Ballisodare, County Sligo. The long course covers about 7.9–8.0 km with roughly 228 m of climb; a short and junior option is approximately 6 km. The route is fully marked and GPS use is allowed.

The course follows gravel paths, winding single-track trails and hilly off-road sections. The long course reaches Union Rock, offering a panoramic viewpoint, then descends a boardwalk for about 100 m before a final 2 km stretch on flat gravel back to the finish area. The short course omits the climb to Union Rock.

Practical details: the Start and Finish area is at the car park next to Ballisodare FC, near Ballisodare, Co. Sligo. There is an entry limit of 250 places. Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over-65s and under-18s. Entries open on 11 May 2026 and close on 15 May 2026. All runners must be IMRA members for the calendar year and must sign in prior to race start; no on-the-day entries are accepted.

Mandatory kit is Level A basic equipment, specifically a showerproof, windproof jacket; the kit to be carried during the race will be finalised and announced at registration. The event is volunteer-run. Prizegiving and refreshments take place at the finish area.
