Event Overview
The Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathlon is a multi-sport event taking place in Grants, New Mexico. The main event for adults covers approximately 43 miles with a total elevation gain of 4,900 feet. The race involves four distinct stages using different equipment.
Course Details
The event begins with a 13-mile bike ride, starting in Grants and climbing 1,800 feet to the end of the pavement on Mt. Taylor. The route passes through high desert terrain. The second stage is a 5-mile run on a gravel and packed snow path, gaining 1,200 feet in elevation.
The third stage is a 2-mile ski segment, climbing another 1,200 feet. This section includes a feature known as Heartbreak Hill. The final ascent to the 11,301-foot summit of Mt. Taylor is a 1-mile snowshoe climb, gaining 600 feet. After reaching the summit, participants return to town via the same disciplines in reverse order.
The event includes a separate Kids Quad with age-specific categories for children from ages 3/4 to 11/12. The race offers live GPS tracking via the RaceJoy app, which provides progress alerts for spectators. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
