The Bluewater Canyon Trail Race takes place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Bluewater Canyon Trail Head, county road 29, Bluewater, NM 87005. The event includes separate entries for runners and walkers. Entry fee is $25 for each event. Registration for runners closes May 14, 2026; registration for walkers closes May 15, 2026. There is no day-of registration.
Course and amenities
The course is a 5-mile trail route that starts and finishes at the Bluewater Canyon parking lot. The first mile runs along a gravel road, then climbs more than 500 feet to the top of Bluewater Canyon. The route follows established dirt roads with some rocky sections, makes a loop on the mountain, and returns to the parking lot. There are three aid stations along the course.
Finish-area provisions include a fruit and beverage buffet. Participants can also walk a short half mile into the canyon to reach the creek. Medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers and to the top three children aged 14 and under; walkers are not eligible for medals. All participants receive custom socks; children receive t-shirts and additional items in swag bags. All registration proceeds will be donated to the Cibola Trail Alliance.
