Bluewater Canyon Trail Race - May 16, 2026
The Bluewater Canyon Trail Race is presented by Trail Runners Do It In The Dirt and the Cibola Trail Alliance. The event takes place at the Bluewater Canyon Trail Head in Bluewater, New Mexico, on BLM land.
The course is a 5 mile out-and-back that begins at the Bluewater Canyon parking lot. Participants run about 1 mile on gravel road before climbing more than 500 feet to the top of Bluewater Canyon. The route follows an established dirt road with some rocky sections and includes three aid stations along the way. The top of the canyon provides views of the surrounding mountains and mesas.
After the finish there is a fruit and beverage buffet. A short half mile hike from the finish leads into the canyon to a creek with cold mountain water. Placer tee shirts will be presented to the top three male and female finishers and the top three kids aged 14 and under. All finishers will receive medals, custom socks, and additional items in swag bags. Walkers will also receive medals.
All registration proceeds are donated to the Cibola Trail Alliance for trail work in and around Cibola County. Friendly four legged companions are allowed but must follow state and local laws. There is no day of registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
