Event Overview
The Mt. Taylor 50K is a 50-kilometer trail race held in the Cibola Forest near Grants, New Mexico. The course takes runners through scenic and varied terrain on Mt. Taylor, including the Continental Divide Trail, forested paths, and open high mountain meadows. The event starts before dawn, following a Navajo tradition of running east to greet the sunrise from the La Mosca Lookout. Runners will see views of volcanic plugs to the north and a 360-degree view from the summit of Mt. Taylor.
Event Details
The race is organized as a not-for-profit event. Entry includes a technical t-shirt for those who register by September 1, a finisher award for all who complete the 50K, a post-race cookout, stocked aid stations, and a marked course. Those who register by August 7 are guaranteed their shirt size.
Special Requirements
Runners who have finished the Mt. Taylor 50K five or more times are required to volunteer or perform trail work for the event before running again. Trail work opportunities are available from July through September. Possible volunteer jobs include event setup, packet pickup, and trail marking.
Registration Policy
The event has a no-refund, no-transfer, and no-rollover policy. All proceeds go to charity. The race director reserves the right to cancel the event in case of adverse conditions beyond their control. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
