Event Overview
The Mt Solitary Ultra is a 45 km trail running event in the Blue Mountains. The course is described as encompassing elements that make trail running exciting, including fast downhill fire and single trails, challenging uphill sections, stairs, rolling single trails, creek and river crossings, rock scrambling, and diverse flora. It circles the Jamison Valley and takes in portions of The UTA 100km course, with the most significant part being the traverse over Mt. Solitary.
Course Details
The total elevation gain is +2515m. The terrain is described as rugged, steep, and technical in parts. Runners must be self-sufficient in the first portion of the course. The course is marked, but there is a degree of self-navigation required.
Aid Stations and Logistics
There is an aid station at the 25km mark at Prince Henry Picnic Area, with unmanned water available at 37km. The event starts and finishes near the Old Queen Victoria Hospital at the end of Tableland Road, Wentworth Falls. Parking is available at the intersection of Tableland Rd and Kings Tableland Rd, Wentworth Falls. Portaloos are at the start/finish line.
Additional Information
Runners and volunteers receive a free coffee/hot chocolate from a coffee van, and hot food (usually a sausage sandwich) and a cold drink at the finish line. For 2026, a special early-start option is available for a limited group of up to 20 runners not competing for overall or age-group podium places. These runners start one hour earlier than the main field. Runners must provide evidence of being capable and self-sufficient on the terrain. Mandatory gear is required.
