Mountain Lakes Triathlon
Mountain Lakes Triathlon takes place in Guntersville, Alabama and marks its 40th anniversary in 2027. The race is staged at the Guntersville Parks and Recreation Center with transition in the Senior Center parking area at 1500 Sunset Dr, Guntersville, AL.
Distances offered:
- Sprint: Swim 600 yd, Bike 16.2 mi, Run 3 mi
- Olympic: Swim 1,200 yd, Bike 32.4 mi, Run 6 mi
The swim is held in Lake Guntersville as a time-trial start; racers enter the water approximately every three seconds and race numbers are assigned by estimated swim time. Course buoys are placed to keep racers on course. Wetsuit rules follow USA Triathlon guidelines with permitted, mandatory, allowed, and prohibited temperature ranges.
The bike course uses a mix of residential and rural roads with flat sections and a few small rollers. Olympic competitors complete two loops. A BIKE MOUNT and DISMOUNT LINE is used; competitors walk their bikes from the transition rack to the mount line and back at dismount.
The run follows a paved trail along Lake Guntersville. Sprint racers complete one out-and-back loop; Olympic racers complete two loops. Racers are asked to keep left on the trail to reduce congestion.
Event formats include individual triathlon, swim-bike, bike-run, relay teams, and a virtual option. All events are sanctioned by USA Triathlon and require the appropriate USAT license or membership.
