Mount Washington Road Race
The Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race is an annual all-uphill footrace held on the Mount Washington Auto Road, finishing at the mountain summit at 6,288 feet. The course covers 7.6 miles with 4,650 vertical feet of climb and a maximum grade of 22%. The event attracts thousands of runners and uses random selection (a lottery) for general registration.
Registration for 2026 includes a limited number of charity entries that require a fundraising commitment, a qualifying bypass process for some entrants, and a random selection period. Race registration benefits local healthcare in northern New Hampshire; the race makes charitable donations to the dental division of Coös County Family Health Services through Delta Dental and has contributed over $500,000 since 2012.
Race logistics on the Mt. Washington Auto Road include a water station to refill halfway to the summit, HAM radio communications, summit parking for race support drivers, and mountain-trained emergency medical teams stationed at the base and the summit. Registered participants receive race bling and a warm blanket at the summit finish.
The event takes place on the Mount Washington Auto Road and uses the road for race support and race operations. Additional information on registration categories, support driver details, and course specifics is provided by the race organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
