Mount Washington Road Race
The Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race is an all uphill road race held on the Mt. Washington Auto Road that finishes at the summit elevation of 6,288 feet. The course covers 7.6 miles with about 4,650 vertical feet of climb and a maximum grade of 22%.
Entry to the event is by random selection (lottery). Registration includes race bling and a warm blanket for finishers on the summit. Race support and logistics along the Auto Road include a water station for midcourse refills, HAM radio communications, summit parking for support drivers, and mountain-trained emergency medical teams stationed at both the base and the summit.
The event donates annually to local healthcare in northern New Hampshire. Through sponsorship by Delta Dental, the race makes charitable contributions to the dental division of Coös County Family Health Services; since 2012 donations have totaled over $500,000.
