The Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race is an historic uphill running event. It is a single climb to the summit of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast. Registration for the race is managed via a random selection lottery.

Course Details

The race course is 7.6 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 4,650 vertical feet. The route follows the Mount Washington Auto Road. It has a maximum grade of 22%. A water station is located approximately halfway to the summit.

Registration and Entry

General entry is through a Random Selection Registration period. There is also a qualifying bypass entry option for certain runners. A separate charity registration requires a commitment to raise funds for Coös County Family Health Services.

Race logistics include HAM radio operator communications and mountain-trained Emergency Medical Teams stationed at the base and summit. Race support drivers can access parking at the summit. The race benefits local healthcare in northern New Hampshire through a charitable donation to the dental division of Coös County Family Health Services.

Post-Race and Schedule

On race day, the Mount Washington Auto Road opens to the public for normal driving operations in the early afternoon. Participants receive a commemorative item and a blanket for use at the finish line on the summit, which is at an elevation of 6,288 feet.
