Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race
The Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race is a historic, annual all uphill road race that attracts thousands of runners from around the world to the summit of the highest peak in the Northeast. The course covers 7.6 miles with 4,650 vertical feet of ascent and a maximum grade of 22%, finishing at approximately 6,288 feet elevation.
Entry is by random selection (lottery). The 2026 registration schedule includes a charity entry opening on January 14, 2026 (100 charity spots; registrants commit to raising $300), a qualifying bypass registration notice on January 14, 2026, random selection registration opening on February 9, 2026 and closing on February 23, 2026, with selection or rejection notifications sent February 26, 2026.
Race logistics are organized along the Mt. Washington Auto Road. Support and services noted for the event include a water station positioned about halfway to the summit, HAM radio operator communications, summit parking for race support drivers, and mountain-trained emergency medical teams stationed at the base and at the summit. Registration for the event includes race bling and a warm blanket at the summit finish.
The event supports local healthcare in northern New Hampshire, directing charitable donations to the dental division of Coös County Family Health Services; since 2012 the race and sponsors have contributed more than $500,000. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
