Mount Washington Road Race
This historic all-uphill road race draws thousands of runners from around the globe to climb to the summit of the highest peak in the Northeast. The course covers 7.6 miles, gains 4,650 vertical feet, and reaches a maximum grade of 22%, finishing at 6,288 feet.
Entry is by random selection. The event also provides a limited number of charity entries that require a fundraising commitment and has a process for qualifying bypass entrants. Registration benefits include race bling and a warm fuzzy blanket at the summit finish.
Race operations on the Mt. Washington Auto Road include a water station located about halfway to the summit, HAM radio communications for event coordination, summit parking for support drivers, and mountain trained emergency medical teams positioned at both the base and the summit. The race makes charitable donations to local healthcare programs in northern New Hampshire, supporting the dental division of Coös County Family Health Services through sponsorship by Delta Dental. Since 2012 the event’s donations to that program total over 500,000 dollars.
The event materials describe historical results, photos, awards, volunteer information, and logistical details for support drivers and bib pick up. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
