York MoRun
The York MoRun takes place at the York Racecourse on Knavesmire Road. This event brings participants together to support the charity Movember, which focuses on men's health issues including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. The event is open to families and individuals, with organizers encouraging fancy dress and a social atmosphere.
The course is located primarily on public land at the racecourse. The terrain consists of a mixture of pathways for the first 2 km, followed by grass for the remainder of the loop. While the course is described as mainly flat, it includes one incline and some uneven sections that can become muddy during wet weather. Due to the terrain, the course is not suitable for wheelchair users, though off-road running buggies are permitted depending on ground conditions.
Available distances include:
- 1.5 km (Mini MoRun for children)
- 5 km (One lap)
- 10 km (Two laps)
- Half Marathon (Four laps plus an additional 1.1 km section)
All participants receive a chip-timed result, a finisher medal, and a dedicated MoRunning headband. The event includes a fancy dress competition and various spot prizes for categories such as "best dress" and "best Mo". Facilities at the event hub include bag storage, toilets, and a warm-up session with music. Water and snacks are provided at the finish line.
