Moosehorn Ghost Run Half Marathon and Relay
The event is a 13.1 miles course held on Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge property at 103 Headquarters Road in Maine. The route uses the refuge service and access road system and remains off open public roads for most of the course. Surfaces include dirt, grassy refuge access roads and some gravel and paved crossings.
Wildlife sightings are commonly noted along the course and may include deer, moose, bear, grouse and various bird species. The course passes meadows, flowages and named locations such as Snare Meadow, Eaton Heath and Howard Mill Flowage. Runners cross Charlotte Road twice and should use the staffed crossing at Snare Meadow as directed.
There are two self serve aid stations along the course, the first near Snare Meadow and the second opposite the finish area which supplies water only. The course contains rolling terrain and includes a three mile loop near the finish before returning past the refuge headquarters. A time limit of 3 hours and 30 minutes applies to the half marathon.
Race entries are capped at 100 participants across all events. Registered participants receive event swag and a post race potluck. Awards and themed awards are given at the discretion of the race director. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
