About the race
Moonriver Night Race is a night-time fell race in the Dovedale valley, based at The Old Dog pub in Thorpe (DE6 2AT). The course covers 9.5 km with approximately 345 m of ascent and crosses open fields, a rocky riverside trail, a woodland climb and undulating footpaths.
The event is licensed by the Fell Runners Association (FRA) and governed by FRA rules. Full FRA kit is required, including a headtorch; competitors are advised to carry a spare headtorch and a mobile phone. The use of GPS navigation or poles is not allowed and running with dogs is prohibited. Failure to carry mandatory kit or to follow the rules may lead to disqualification.
The event has a minimum age of 18 and a maximum capacity of 250 runners. Entry fees listed are £12 for FRA members and £14 for non members; entries open on 1 August 2026 and close on 5 January 2027. Entry numbers are recorded for the event.
Parking is available at the pub and at nearby Narlows Lane and Thorpe station car parks, and at the Peveril of the Peak hotel (DE6 2AW). Prizegiving includes individual and team prizes across standard age categories, supplied by local sponsors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
