Moonlight Howl 5K
The Moonlight Howl 5K is a nighttime running and walking event held in Ballwin, Missouri. Now in its 15th year, this unique race takes place under the stars and follows a tradition where participants begin the event by howling at the moon. The event is part of the Ballwin Race Series, and a portion of every registration fee supports the Ballwin Parks and Recreation Scholarship Fund.

Participants receive a long-sleeved race shirt, a finisher medal, and live race results. Runners who register by September 29, 2026, are guaranteed a race shirt. Post-race amenities include food, music, and one complimentary beverage, such as soda, hot chocolate, or beer, provided at the finish line by The Wolf Cafe Tap Room.
The course features on-track nutrition including water and electrolyte drinks, though athletes are encouraged to carry their own additional nutrition. Awards are presented to the top two overall male and female finishers, as well as the top two finishers in various age categories ranging from under 19 to over 80. As part of a larger race series, participants also earn points toward year-end standings which can result in vouchers for future events.
The event is held rain or shine. Packet pickup is available on the day before the race in Chesterfield or on the evening of the event at the race site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
