Monsters Run the River
Monsters Run the River is an annual fall road race in downtown Westbrook that routes runners along the Presumpscot River and through nearby neighborhoods. The 2026 event is the ninth installment and is presented as a benefit for Discover Downtown Westbrook; ticket sales support future downtown events.
The race course begins and ends at Riverbank Park along Main Street. The route follows the River Walk, crosses the Presumpscot River via a pedestrian bridge, continues through neighborhoods north of the river, then turns south to cross back and return along the River Walk. The final section directs racers onto Main Street, around the outside of Riverbank Park, and back into the park for the finish. The Fun Run 1K uses the same start and finish area, backtracking along the River Walk toward Cumberland Street before returning to the finish.
Event features for 2026 include official timing, a market with local vendors and food, live music, an aid station at the finish, awards for costumes and racers, and participant goody bags. The first 75 registered runners receive a free t-shirt. The event includes volunteer opportunities and a sponsorship program to support organization and operations.
