Monsters Run The River
Monsters Run The River is a community road-racing event held in Riverbank Park in downtown Westbrook, Maine, along the Presumpscot River on October 25, 2026. The event features multiple short-distance races that start and finish in Riverbank Park.
- 5K Road Race: route along the River Walk and pedestrian bridge.
- Canine 5K: a 5K held with dogs; begins just before the main 5K.
- Kids Fun Run 1K: free for children 12 and under; no registration required.
The 5K course winds along the River Walk, crosses the Presumpscot River on a pedestrian bridge, continues through neighborhoods north of the river, then returns across the river to finish with a wide loop around Riverbank Park and a final entrance back into the park. The 1K fun run follows a back-and-forth section of the River Walk toward Cumberland Street before returning to the finish area.
The event uses official timing and posts results online after the race. Awards recognize the fastest finishers and best costumes, with presentations taking place near the finish area; organizers will contact winners who cannot remain. The race benefits Discover Downtown Westbrook, a nationally accredited Main Street program focused on making downtown Westbrook more walkable, livable, and active.
